Renewal Procedure

All KCMMB approved mix designs for 2009 will expire on March 1, 2010, even if mixes are used on multi-year construction projects. New mix designs must be submitted to GBA to remain an approved KCMMB supplier for 2010. Mix designs submitted with a completed checklist in *.pdf format by February 1, 2010 will be approved by the deadline. Mix designs must be submitted by January 15, 2010 with a completed checklist if GBA is to create the *.pdf.

The 2010 submittal process will be similar to last year. A $50.00 fee per mix design will be assessed for the first submittal. An additional $50.00 fee will be assessed for each mix design requiring a second round of comments. Please make checks payable to GBA. All mix designs must be submitted in *.pdf format. Submittals not in *.pdf format will be charged an additional submittal fee of $100.00 per mix design for GBA to create these files. A *.pdf file can be created using Adobe Software, at Kinko's, American Reprographics, or at CPG for their members. GBA will create an example *.pdf file to follow with a list of instructions . The example file can be located by clicking EXAMPLE.PDF.

All mix designs shall include the standard mix design sheet . DO INCLUDE MIX DESIGN SHEET CHECKLIST IN THE MIX DESIGN .PDF AND AS A SEPARATE EXCEL FILE.

All mix designs are good for one year and must follow the NEW 2010 KCMMB Concrete Material Specification.

If multiple mix designs are anticipated, the KCMMB requires testing only on the range of cementious materials. For example: A submittal for 15%, 20%, and 25% slag. C1567 testing will be required for the 15% submittal only, and the testing must meet a maximum expansion of 0.10%.

Compressive Tests:
Mixes with Historical Data
If the mix design has a record of historical data test results performed by a qualified laboratory for a minimum of three concrete compression tests that meet requirements of chapter 5 of ACI 318 for the strength are required. Compressive tests are required for each mix design submitted. However, if mix designs differ only in water to cement ratios, one set of three compressive tests shall be required for only the highest water to cement ratio. (Note: One compressive test equals the average strength of two cylinders made from the same sample of concrete and tested at 28 days). Each concrete compression test must be sampled from separate batches.

Mixes without Historical Data
If the mix design is new and historical data is not available the trial batch method outlined in ACI 318 (5.3.3.2) shall be used. The curve described in this section shall be provided with the data.

If the 2010 mix design submittal is the same as the previously approved 2009 mix design, compressive test results completed in 2009 (historical data) on that mix design will be acceptable for the 2010 submittal. Test results for approval of the 2009 mix design are not acceptable. For example, tests were performed in January for the 2009 submittal, those tests could NOT be used for the 2010 submittal.
